Testimony wraps up in Rwanda genocide case

Testimony has ended in the case of a New Hampshire woman who prosecutors say committed acts of violence during the Rwanda genocide then denied it on applications to enter the United States and obtain citizenship.
Beatrice Munyenyezi (moon-yehn-YEH’-zee) did not testify. Lawyers will make final arguments to the jury Friday in federal court in Concord, after 11 days of testimony.
Prosecution witnesses testified they saw Munyenyezi direct rapes and killings, and one said he saw her shoot a nun at the edge of a killing pit next to a Butare (buh-TAR’-ee) hotel owned by her husband’s family.
The Concord Monitor reports (http://bit.ly/xXJkOH) her relatives testified they never saw her carry a gun and that she was pregnant with twins and remained inside the hotel during the 1994 genocide. AP

Uganda Police issue fresh terror alert

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba “We have received a security notification in form of an orange notice of four terrorists originating from Kazakhstan who are planning to travel to foreign countries in order to commit attacks and participate in hostile acts,” Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said in a statement on Monday. Nabakooba named the four active members of radical organizations as; Nassiruauly Kairat, Umurzakov Marat Eskendirovich, Kovtun Denis Valerevich and Mazhibayen Alimzhan Akhlazhanovich. Mushikiwabo to UN: Enhance civilian protection

By Eugene Kwibuka Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to invest more energy in the prevention of conflicts for better protection of civilians living in conflict-torn areas. Rwanda’s Foreign minister, Louise Mushikiwabo Louise Mushikiwabo made the call during an open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict which the UNSC held in New York on Tuesday. “Rwanda’s core message today is that enhancing the protection of civilians in armed conflict requires action before a conflict starts. The proliferation of non-state armed groups makes civilian protection both more urgent, and harder to achieve,” she said.
