Winner of Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival writing competition to be awarded scholarship

Miss.
Salha Haji Omar, from Mpapa Secondary School, will be awarded a
university scholarship for winning the Jahazi Literary & Jazz
Festival writing competition - Writers’ for Peace - on Monday 26th March
2012.
The
Minister of Education, Mr. Ramadhan Abdalla Shaban, will award the
scholarship to Miss. Omar, on behalf of a sponsor of the Jahazi Literary
& Jazz Festival. Mr. Shaban said “Awarding a university scholarship
is a first here in Zanzibar, so we and the community are very excited
about this and what it means for Salha - and future winners of the
Writers’ for Peace competition. Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival is
giving young people and a fantastic opportunity to aspire to become
something great.”
The
Writers’ for Peace schools competition is designed to inspire school
children and encourage them to nurture cultures that value education and
peace. Miss Omar told us that: “I can’t believe that I have won a
university scholarship. I have always dreamed of becoming a writer, and
now my dream can become a reality.”
The
Ministry of Education recorded over 3000 competition entries – an all
time high in the number of entries for writing competitions launched in
Zanzibar. This is also the first time that a university scholarship has
been awarded in Zanzibar.
We
would like to invite you to attend the awards ceremony at Mpapa
Secondary School at 10am on the 26 February 2012. Transport to and from
the venue will be provided. The pickup point is outside the Old Fort.
Transport departs at 8:30am. A press lunch will be provided along with a
per-deim of 20,000Tsh.
