Jacob Zuma Atangaza Kujiuzulu Urais

Rais Jacob Zuma wa Afrika Kusini ametangaza kujiuzulu.

Chama tawala nchini Africa kusini cha ANC, kimepokea tangazo la kujiuzulu kwa Jacob Zuma katika nafasi yake ya Urais.

Afisa mmoja mwandamizi wa chama hicho amesema hatua hiyo italeta utulivu wakati nchi inakabiliwa na changamoto mbalimbali, Ameongeza kusema kuwa ANC haisherehekei hatua hiyo, kutokana na kwamba Zuma amekitumikia chama hicho kwa miaka 60.

Awali kupitia televisheni Bwana Zuma alisema hakubaliani na mahitaji ya uongozi wa ANC kwamba anapaswa kujiuzulu, lakini amejiuzulu ili kuepusha ghasia ambazo zingechafua jina lake.

Makamu wa Rais wa Africa kusini Cyril Ramaphosa atapigiwa kura na wabunge kama mkuu wa nchi na baadaye kula kiapo ndani ya siku chache zijazo.

South Africa's embattled President Jacob Zuma has resigned his office with immediate effect.

He made the announcement in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, Mr Zuma's governing ANC party told him to resign or face a vote of no confidence in parliament on Thursday.

The 75-year-old has been under increasing pressure to give way to Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC's new leader.

Mr Zuma, who has been in power since 2009, faces numerous allegations of corruption.

His resignation came at the end of a long speech in which he said he disagreed with the way the ANC had acted towards him.

He said he did not fear a motion of no confidence, adding: "I have served the people of South Africa to the best of my ability."

Uganda Police issue fresh terror alert

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba “We have received a security notification in form of an orange notice of four terrorists originating from Kazakhstan who are planning to travel to foreign countries in order to commit attacks and participate in hostile acts,” Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said in a statement on Monday. Mushikiwabo to UN: Enhance civilian protection

By Eugene Kwibuka Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to invest more energy in the prevention of conflicts for better protection of civilians living in conflict-torn areas. Rwanda’s Foreign minister, Louise Mushikiwabo Louise Mushikiwabo made the call during an open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict which the UNSC held in New York on Tuesday. “Rwanda’s core message today is that enhancing the protection of civilians in armed conflict requires action before a conflict starts. The proliferation of non-state armed groups makes civilian protection both more urgent, and harder to achieve,” she said.
