Maafa ya uvutaji sigara haijulikani nchini Somali

Serikali ya Somalia inalazimika kufanya utafiti wa kina kuhusu athari za matumizi ya tumbaku kwani Wasomali wengi hawana uelewa kuhusu madhara ya kimwili na kiuchumi ya uvutaji, mtaalamu wa afya na maofisa wa ajira wasema.

Utafiti rasmi ungetoa mwanga kuhusu matatizo ya kiafya yanayohusiana na uvutaji sigara na uhusiano kati ya uvutaji na masuala ya kifedha na kijamii, alisema Adam Haji Ibrahim, daktari na mtaalamu wa afya ya jamii ambaye anafundisha Chuo Kikuu cha Benadir.
Utafiti unahitajika pia kutambua idadi ya Wasomali wanaovuta, alisema.
"Hakuna utafiti wa kutumainiwa kuhusu idadi ya watu wanaovuta sigara, matatizo yanayosababishwa na sigara kwao na hatari za jumla za kuvuta kwa umma wa Wasomali," Ibrahim aliiambia Sabahi, akiongezea kwamba kukosekana kwa serikali madhubuti inayoweza kutoa huduma za jamii za jumla kwa raia wao kwa kipindi cha miaka 22 ndicho cha kulaumu.
Kwa mujibu wa Shirika la Afya Duniani, ambalo linahamasisha siku ya Dunia isiyo na matumizi ya Tumbaku tarehe 31 Mei, takribani watu milioni sita hufa kila mwaka kutokana ma matumizi ya tumbaku na zaidi ya watu 600,000 hufa kutokana na kuvuta moshi wa mtu anayevuta.

Mushikiwabo to UN: Enhance civilian protection
