Festival 2010It's Tamasha Time!
It is Tamasha time again as ZIFF is commonly known in Zanzibar. Welcome to A Festival With A Difference for at ZIFF we celebrate Diversity: ZIFF is the antithesis of the Western-style glitzy film festival. There are no red carpets, no star treatment and no limousines! We have constructed alternatives governed by fairness, solidarity and respect for human dignity. In this intense ten day long festival we provide you with screenings, premieres, music performances, art exhibitions, Forums and advocacy programsEast Africa’s largest film and arts festival will be taking place between July 10-18, 2010 in Zanzibar showcasing a broad spectrum of African and International creative works, that we believe can lead to better understanding and foster communication between peoples of diverse cultures and races and serving as a vehicle for dialogue and social activism.Festival theme: Hopes in HarmonyFor we recognize that we all have hopes and dreams but they are often individual and disparate. They become truly worthy when they are in harmony. In harmony we find peace, in harmony we build justice. In harmony we shall save the environment. This is the call of our times. This year the absolutely must-see-films include the incredible Ana’s Playground, (USA), The Award winning We Are Together, (South Africa), the creatively memorable Imani (Uganda), the unforgettable Motherland (USA), a Compilation of short films from Zimbabwe and many others.African Premieres always form the base of films at ZIFF and this edition is not different. Films from Burundi, Tanzania, USA, South Africa, Australia will have their premieres at the magnificent Old Fort Amphitheatre!Having opened itself to greater links with the African diaspora ZIFF will welcome special guests from the Pan-African Film Festival of Los Angeles (PAFF), and the Trinidad and Tobago International Film Festival (TTIFF) as well as those from South America especially Brazil.Recognised by its flagship program Festival of Festivals, this year ZIFF welcomes over 15 festival directors from Africa and overseas to take part in the festival events. They shall also evaluate ZIFF in its attempt at developing a Network of film festival workers around the world. To you all we say “KARIBUNI!”Welcome to ZIFF 2010!
