Welcome to the Met-allic Costume Institute Gala, 2012... because this year the legendary New York fashion meets art event is all about who can sparkle hardest, as the celebrities slip into futuristic fabrics.
It can be a terribly tricky look to pull off, though it is one of the season's most popular trends.

The Costume Institute Gala was again held at New York's Metropolitan Museum and this year the legendary event was all about who could sparkle the hardest, as the celebrities slipped into futuristic fabrics. Among the standouts were (left to right) Lana Del Rey, Scarlett Johannson, Kate Upton, Camilla Belle, Jessica Alba, Sophia Vergara, Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Carey Mulligan and Karolina Kurkova.

Gwyneth Paltrow had no problems, paying tribute to tonight's hostess Muccia in a stunning short and backless lilac-silver dress that was probably the most elegant outfit on the red carpet tonight at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.

Sparkle seems to work best when given a slant, like Gwyneth's Barbarella minimalism or Sofia Vergara's sensational Marchesa silver lace column dress.

The colour is so subtle it allows the drama of the lace and the sexy shape of the gown to really do the talking, and the Modern Family star finished off her look with a bright, bright slick of fuchsia pink lipstick... which sealed the deal.

Uganda Police issue fresh terror alert

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba “We have received a security notification in form of an orange notice of four terrorists originating from Kazakhstan who are planning to travel to foreign countries in order to commit attacks and participate in hostile acts,” Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said in a statement on Monday. Nabakooba named the four active members of radical organizations as; Nassiruauly Kairat, Umurzakov Marat Eskendirovich, Kovtun Denis Valerevich and Mazhibayen Alimzhan Akhlazhanovich. Poland’s GROM special services mastermind found dead

Brigadier General Slawomir Petelicki, responsible for the formation of the GROM special services unit in the 1990s, was found dead at his apartment, Saturday, with bullet wounds to the head.
