Mahakama yapinga Rais Banda kufuta matokeo Malawi

Lilongwe, Malawi. Mahakama Kuu ya Malawi imepinga uamuzi wa Rais wa nchi hiyo, Joyce Banda kufuta matokeo ya awali yaliyotangazwa na Tume ya Uchaguzi ya Malawi (MEC) kwa madai kuwa hana mamlaka hayo.
Mahakama Kuu ilitoa uamuzi huo jana baada ya Rais Banda kufuta uchaguzi huo kwa madai kuwa ulikuwa na kasoro, ikiwa ni pamoja na vitendo vya wizi na matokeo kuchezewa kwenye kompyuta.(Martha Magessa)
Wakati Rais Banda akitangaza kufuta matokeo ya uchaguzi alisema: "Ninabatilisha matokeo ya uchaguzi kwa mamlaka niliyopewa na katiba ya Malawi. Ninataka kuwapa Wamalawi nafasi nyingine ya kuchangua mgombea anayefaa kwa uhuru."
Aidha, Rais Banda alisema kuwa hatagombea tena nafasi ya urais katika uchaguzi ambao alisema utafanyika ndani ya siku 90 kuanzia sasa.
Awali mawakili wa serikali ya Malawi, Kalekeni Kaphale, Noel Chalamanda, Patrick Mpaka waliwasilisha pingamizi mahakamani wakipinga Rais Banda kufuta matokeo hayo.
Chalamanda alisema mahakama hiyo imetupilia mbali tangazo la Rais Banda kwa kuwa hana mamlaka ya kufuta matokeo ya uchaguzi na kusimamisha kazi ya kuhesabu kura. "Mahakama imesema Rais Banda hana mamlaka ya kufuta uchaguzi," alisema Chalamanda.
Chalamanda alisema mahakama hiyo pia imeweka pingamizi Rais Banda kutokana na hatua yake ya kufuta matokeo na kusimamisha shughuli za kuhesabu kura.
Baada ya Rais Banda kutangaza kufuta matokeo, hali ya wasiwasi ilitanda katika mji mdogo wa Limbe ambako polisi wa nchi hiyo walikuwa wakipita huku na kule wakiwa kwenye magari.
Ulinzi uliimarishwa juzi katika mji huo baada ya serikali kupata taarifa za kiintelejensia kwamba raia wa nchi hiyo walipanga kufanya maandamano kupinga uamuzi wa rais huyo.
Kabla ya serikali kutuma polisi kwenye mji huo, wananchi walianzisha vurugu katika mji mkuu wa Blantyre.
Katika hatua nyingine, chama cha MCP kimetangaza kwamba mgombea wake, Lazarus Chakwera ameshinda uchaguzi huo pia tume ya uchaguzi na baadhi ya vyombo vimekuwa vikishambuliwa kwa kutangaza kuwa mgombea wa Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) anaongoza kwa asilimia 42.
Kabla ya Rais Banda kutangaza kufuta matokeo hayo, Tume ya Uchaguzi ya Malawi (MEC) ilitangaza matokeo ya awali ambayo yalionyesha mgombea wa Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Peter Mutharika alikuwa akiongoza kwa asilimia 42 baada ya kupata kura 683,621 akifuatiwa na Rais Banda ambaye alipata kura 372,101 sawa na asilimia 23 kupitia People's Party (PP).

Mushikiwabo to UN: Enhance civilian protection
