Sauti za Busara 2012

The 9th edition of Sauti za Busara music festival takes place in Stone Town, Zanzibar from
Wed 8 Sun 12 February 2012. 100% LIVE African music under African skies.
Sauti za Busara (Sounds of Wisdom) brings people together in celebration, with a diverse and delicious mix of music from all over East Africa and beyond.
Opening the festival will be the island´s largest Carnival Street Parade with beni brass band, ngoma drummers, mwanandege umbrella women, stilt-walkers, capoeira dancers and acrobats.

Inside the Old Fort, music groups from all around Africa perform daily from 5pm til 1am.
After sunset, the African Music Film programme kicks in with music videos and clips, documentaries and live concert footage. Local food and drinks, music, jewellery, clothing and handicrafts are close by in the festival marketplace. Meanwhile, the island is buzzing with a range of Busara Xtra fringe events: ngoma drum and dance performances, fashion shows, dhow races, openmic sessions, after-parties and open rehearsals of Zanzibar´s oldest taarab orchestras are all arranged by the local community.

Uganda Police issue fresh terror alert

By Chris Kiwawulo, The Police have issued a fresh terror alert against a possible attack on Uganda by four terrorists from Kazakhstan. Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba “We have received a security notification in form of an orange notice of four terrorists originating from Kazakhstan who are planning to travel to foreign countries in order to commit attacks and participate in hostile acts,” Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said in a statement on Monday. Nabakooba named the four active members of radical organizations as; Nassiruauly Kairat, Umurzakov Marat Eskendirovich, Kovtun Denis Valerevich and Mazhibayen Alimzhan Akhlazhanovich. Mushikiwabo to UN: Enhance civilian protection

By Eugene Kwibuka Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to invest more energy in the prevention of conflicts for better protection of civilians living in conflict-torn areas. Rwanda’s Foreign minister, Louise Mushikiwabo Louise Mushikiwabo made the call during an open debate on the protection of civilians in armed conflict which the UNSC held in New York on Tuesday. “Rwanda’s core message today is that enhancing the protection of civilians in armed conflict requires action before a conflict starts. The proliferation of non-state armed groups makes civilian protection both more urgent, and harder to achieve,” she said.
